It's Hoodie Duty Time!
I'm totally disgusted with all this hoodie nonsense. First, in the interest of full disclosure, I'm a 66 year old conservative white guy who has eight hoodies hanging in his closet. I wear them often during winter months.
This whole Trayvon Martin hoodie thing has been trumped up by idiot racist rabble-rousers who want to claim that Martin was targeted because he was black, and that wearing a hoodie is somehow a black identifier. Now it seems to have become a symbol of solidarity for black extremists. So much so that a radical black U.S. Congressman has been thrown off the House floor for wearing his hoodie in violation of the established dress code. What a statement he made! His constituents should be so proud.
Yes, it now seems to be the duty of every racial bigot who happens to be black to wear a hoodie. Woo-woo! It's hoodie duty time!
I'm not sure how this hoodie thing got started, but I heard that Geraldo said: "I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin's death as George Zimmerman was." Such a breathtakingly stupid remark would ordinarily leave me gasping for air. But, this was the great Geraldo, world famous for dim-witted remarks. Only a complete dolt would take anything he says seriously. No wonder it showed up in Congress.
The crux of the matter is that these race baiting extremists have latched onto the hoodie as a symbol of black defiance. That is really a dangerous and disturbing development. As matters stood before Geraldo's inane remark, no reasonable person would have attributed any racial significance to hoodies. Now, who's to say? If all the angry blacks start wearing hoodies as their livery, then wouldn't it be reasonable for everyone else to be wary of them? So, isn't that creating the exact same negative bias that these racists are complaining about in the first place? Oh wait, how foolish of me. That's their agenda, to create racial hate and divisiveness.
All of this is based on the flawed premise that some special relationship exists between blacks and hoodies. It just isn't so. Everyone wears them. Yes, I know hoodies are extremely popular among young blacks. But, no less so among young whites. Consider that just about every college, university, and clothing designer has at least one hoodie for sale. They're literally everywhere.
I suppose to be thorough in dealing with this topic it should be noted that hoodies can look imposing or even scary. That is simply because they tend to hide the features of the wearer. And, what's left to the imagination is always more frightening than what we can clearly see. This has nothing to do with race or skin color. In fact, the circumstances under which hoodies seem most sinister are those such as darkness, proximity, and viewing angle where the skin color of the wearer couldn't be seen anyway.
But regardless, the call has gone out. All you black radical, racist, hate mongers out there need to get hoodied up. It's hoodie duty time!
